Last day

Image
Today was our last day. In the morning, I was installing the  monitor onto the monitor stand. I realized the monitor holes needed to be enlarged, so I asked a staff  member to expand the holes and afterward, we were able to install it.    We proceeded with the airplane project. We used the 3D printer for it, and it was my first time watching it. After we assembled all the parts, we finished the project. It is called reverse engineering.  Finally, I would like to thank Mr. Jihad and all the workshop staff." I truly enjoyed learning drawing skills and having the opportunity to complete the tasks assigned to me, which gave me a great sense of accomplishment. This has been a very rewarding and wonderful month.

we've started the project of display stand

Image
We started the cutting and welding for the display stand project today. we followed the same procedure as the drone monitor stand. Also, we saw the 3D printer that was working.  After lunch, we joined a discussion with Mr. Zihad. It was about the paper airplane event at the elementary school. Thank you for the valuable experience. The atmosphere was very relaxed, and they emphasized to us that it was a discussion, not a meeting hahaha

Assembly is complete

Image
We continued assembly for the drone monitor stand. In the morning, we drilled the screw holes by a machine. We were able to drill the hole perfectly. After that, we did welding of the pole to be installed in the centre. After wiping the oil from the pillar, I painted it yellow. This completes one of our projects. It has ben a very successful experience.

Cutting&Welding

Image
We went to the workspace in the aerospace buildingsAfter finalizing the design for the drones monitor stand,  We went to the workspace in the aerospace building to start the fabrication. In the morning, we did the process of cutting the materials. the drones monitor stand consists of six parts. Mr. Shukuri cut the materials, and After that, we sanded the cut pieces of material.  After lunch break, we began welding. I studied mechanical engineering, so I had seen welding before, but it was first time in about five years. it's impressive to see something I designed come together.

Remodeling the designs

Image
Today, I continued remodeling the gas turbine mount, just like yesterday. I've finished remodeling it in this evening, I changed it to 2D drawing. When I first started using fusion360, I didn't know about assemblies, so I designed without using it. But now I can use this function, so I exported 3D to 2D more easily than before.

Discussion about the designs

Image
We completed five mechanical designs last week. Today, We held a discussion regarding tehse items. I reviewed the mount of gas turbine and the stand for drone monitor with Mr.Zihad. Following discussion,  I changed the design for the drone monitor stand, as it lacked sufficient stability. I added another support post. I also changed the connection from welding to bolts where the posts join the main monitor support. original design revised desgin We tried to control a drone in the evening. It was my first time, as I've never had the chance before because the drone regulations in Japan is very strict. I was so excited!! Mr. Zihad taught me hoe to use the controller. After that, we went to a field to fly the drone. Sakai did first and then I  did. Whenever we made a mistake with the controls, Mr. Zihad would take over. I felt the adrenalin rush. It was a valuable experience.

We've completed the VISA application

Image
Ww went to the main campus with Rohani san in this morning. Because we have to complete the VISA application. It was second time to go to the main campus. We went to VISA department. There are so many national people in it. We tried to complete all the procedures before lunch break but We couldn't. So, We've had lunch in cafeteria.  I ate nasigoreng. It was delicious but more expensive than engineering campus cafeteria. There are many cafeterias and coffee shops in the main campus.  I finished 3D designing of the gas turbine mount. But I cannot convert 3D to 2D well. I will have to do it tomorrow. I have 4 tasks besides this. I'm feeling rushed, but I will steadily move forward with the tasks.

Learn how to use Fusion360

Image
Using 3DCAD is harder than I thought. I started designing a gas turbine mount. First, I designed the main part of it. After that I designed the connecting part to attach the gas turbine to the mount. But I did it on same tab, and I realized it was mistake afterwards. This wasn't the only thing I was confused about there was a lot more.  I've been working on it for 3days . Sometimes I watched Youtube videos about hoe to use Fusion, and other times I asked my friend in Japan for help. I haven't finished it yet, but Im getting a little used to designing in Fusion.

Discussion for mechanical drawings

Image
We  saw several types of drones with Mr. Zihad. One of them was shaped like an airplane. However, it  can move like a helicopter, because it has four mortars. This drone doesn't require a runway when taking off. Such drones are often called VTOL (vertical takeoff and landing) drones.  This is a micro computer that receives information about the aircraft's condition, such as altitude and roll.  Today's main task was to discuss the design about the sketch. We decided to connect the joints of the airplane model with bolts. The airplane model made with USM is assembled with glue. It is first challenge using bolts.  Finally, we attempted to turn the airplane's propeller. However, it was a false. Mr. Zihad said the airplane was shy because the Japanese had come.

Airplane simulator

Image
Mr. Zihad wasn't in USM today, so we met with Mr. Amir. He taught me how to use the airplane simulator. We're planning to fly a real airplane on Week3, so we need to get some practice with the controller.  After that, We measured the airplane model to make a mechanical drawing by 3DCAD. I have experiences using 2DCAD but I've only used 3DCAD  a few times.  We measured a gas turbine too. We will make a mount to it. It has one connection point above and two connections points to the side, and the draftings proceeds accordingly.

Polishing, measuring

Image
I had breakfast at the  USM cafeteria again today. My daily routine is to have coffee and breakfast. However, The coffee in Malaysia is too sweat for me, so I order coffee without sugar.  Our first task is to paint the  metal support for the airplane. We repainted a part of it yesterday, but now only that area looks shiny. So, we need to paint the whole thing to make it match.  And then, we polished an airplane wing. It became shiny. It was second time polishing for me. First time, I polished father's car when I was young.  We will start mechanical drawings on next week, so We are measuring the parts we need to sketch.

Repaint the mount

Image
Today, We started to repaint for  the mount for airplane fuel tank in black. It was made by Mr.Zihad  10 years ago.  After that, We took breakfast, and ate Malaysian food in USM cafeteria. It was pretty good. I like fried chicken's in Malaysia. Usually, There are cats on the tables in cafeteria.  Mr.Zihad made the schedule for us.  According to the schedule, We will do 5 mechanical drawing projects. I think they are interesting. I don't usually do mechanical drawings, but it is a necessary skill for me. So, I will do my best on these projects.

Making aircraft&Painting tables

Image
Date: 08/09/2025 Day: Monday USM Staff: Mr. Zihad Today is our first day at the USM Lab. We met Mr. Zihad, who is 40years old.  His major is aerospace engineering, which I think we will learn about it.  1) Making aircraft First, We made paper airplanes  as an icebreaker. Mr. Zihad's airplane was the best. But, mine was pretty good too. It felt likable an international competition!! 2)Painting tables Second, we painted tables. However,  I accidentally dropped some painte. but Mr. Zihad said it was  okay.  He is kind. I think most  Malaysians are friendly.  After, we ate soups and drink coffee. He taught me his recommendation food shops near the school.  Today was a good day for me. But, I think I have to improve my English more and more.
